The oval shape of the bracelets mimics the trigger cage of a gun and serves as a reminder of the destruction that is caused when the trigger of a gun is pulled. Each series carries a serial number that corresponds with one of the guns that were taken off the streets of Newark. The pieces are made in part of steel from the guns or brass from the shell casings that are swept from crime scenes by the Newark Police Department. These pieces are handmade, no two are exactly alike. The side of the bracelet shows a hand hammered finish to symbolize the hard work required, not only of the police, but of each individual, in the fight to get illegal guns off the streets of their community. Lastly, the diamond, the most treasured of the precious stones, is a symbol of human life.
